Extropic
Extropic builds thermodynamic sampling units, including the Z1 chip, for probabilistic AI workloads at far lower energy use than GPUs.
About
Extropic develops thermodynamic computing hardware intended to run probabilistic AI far more efficiently than conventional GPUs. Its Thermodynamic Sampling Units (TSUs) are inherently probabilistic chips; the Z1 chip carries over 250,000 probabilistic bits on a die under 12mm while drawing under one watt. The company also offers the XTR-0 prototype platform and software including THRML and TORX for programming and simulating TSU workloads. Extropic states that it was founded in 2022 to build highly energy-efficient computers.
